Collection: Dominio de la Vega
We discovered this estate through its outstanding Cavas. We subsequently added a number of extremely agreeable and reasonably priced, quality wines with the local, fruity Bobal grape taking the lead.
The Dominio de la Vega winery was created after the premises of the old house of the Conde de Villamar winery had been carefully restored. Conde de Villamar was built by Count Ferrer de Plegamans in the early eighteenth century. The winery was fully restored and equipped with the newest technologies but the old regional traditions continued to be valued. The old underground 'trullos' (wine presses) and tanks are nowadays used as maturation cellars. They remain places of gentle light and calm. Dominio de la Vega is a true family winery with a distinguished and pioneering profile which has marked an era in the production of quality wines in the region. The production of Cava began in the area in 1982. A few years later they were the first to bottle a high-end 100% Bobal wine.
Dominio de la Vega makes wine and Cava in a traditional and mostly natural way, with respect for the environment, and without using any sort of aggressive treatments and industrial processes. The grapes are always harvested in the dark. After that, according to an unchanged tradition of this winery, the wines are stored in a dark, quiet placed where they can age undisturbed for as long they need.
This winery's agreeable wines are a very authentic expression of their terroir, with its muddy, but very suitable clay soil.
The winery is specialised in quality wines from D.O. Utiel-Requena and guarantees its own, distinguished character. Their monovarietal Bobal wines are already among the best in the region. Dominio de la Vega Cavas are all given 'Excellent' ratings by Robert Parker and their Brut Reserva Especial was named 'the best Cava in Spain' by associations of oenologists and sommeliers.
The Dominio de la Vega winery is located in San Antonio Requena in the western part of the Spanish Province of Valencia at some 700 to 900 metres above sea level. Its stony soils are rich in chalk and clay, which results in a very productive vine with a low yield but with high quality grapes. The climate is Mediterranean with continental characteristics through its high altitude and distance from the sea: long, cold winters, short summers, low rainfall and plentiful sunshine. A very privileged place to have a vineyard.
