Collection: IGP Castelló
The IGP Castelló is a geographical indication for the 'Vinos de la Tierra' in the province of Castellón, the northernmost province of the Valencian Community. Vino de la Tierra is slightly below D.O. quality on the official value scale. But just like in other regions and countries (think of certain IGP wines in Italy and France), beautiful products are sometimes made in these areas.
The IGP Castelló contains three sub-zones: Alto Palancia- Alto Mijares, Sant Mateu and Les Useres-Vilafamés. It obtained its Vino de la Tierra status in 2004.
The most common blue grapes are bobal, cabernet sauvignon, garnacha, merlot, monastrell, pinot noir, bonicaire, tempranillo, and syrah.
For whites, these are chardonnay, malvasia, merseguera, moscatel de alejandria, pedro ximénez, planta fina de pedralba, macabeo, airén, planta nova, sauvignon blanc and verdil.
