100% Tempranillo (known locally as Tinto Fino). The Llanos de Almendro plot has a 1.2 metre deep topsoil of sand and pebbles. It is the poorest piece of vineyard in the area. At the same time, it also has the hottest microclimate in the summer (often after very cold, long winters) which means that the grapes ripen slowly here and build up complexity. 16 months in French oak barrels. Elegant, multi-layered bouquet of ripe red fruits and blackberries, interwoven with liquorice and a touch of balsam. The same accents develop into a rich taste, nicely structured with good tannins and a wonderfully long finish. Goes perfectly with white and red meat, roast lamb, meat stews, ripe cheese, savoury sauces and rice dishes with the black truffle typical of the region.
