Collection: Bodega de Forlong
Rocio Áspera and Alejandro Narváez, are a young couple with a background in economics and marketing. They had a passion and a dream that more or less came true in 2007 when Rocio's father bought a hectare of land and planted it with grapevines. Forlong was established in 2009. Alejandro took up studying oenology and winegrowing (in Bordeaux) and Rocio specialised in winegrowing in warm areas while also working for a time for Luis Pérez.
The house is called after their first vineyard in Pago Balbaina Baja in El Puerto. This vineyard was once the property of Charles Forlong, the British Vice Consul and a partner of the long-vanished sherry bodega, Matthiesen Forlong. Meantime, they bought two new plots: one in Balbaina Alta between Jerez and Sanlúcar and one just to the east of Jerez called La Greduela (where they grow black grapes). Both the Balbaina plots are Alabariza. La Gerduela has a clay soil. A total of 11 hectares have now been planted with vines but they are not yet all productive.
Forlong makes organically certified wines. They have gone from an original 3,000 bottles to 60,000 today. Wines are vinified and aged in various different ways: in stainless steel tanks, wooden barrels and occasionally large clay jars called tinajas. Grapes: Tintilla, Palomino, Pedro Ximénez, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon.
