Classic Rioja composition: 92% Tempranillo, 4% Graciano and 4% Mazuelo. During the alcoholic fermentation of what is to become Murua Reserva, the fermentation temperature is meticulously managed and controlled. The malolactic fermentation takes place in 3,000, litre French oak barrels. This is followed by a further 20-month ageing in 225-litre, French oak barrels, not more than three-years-old. For optimal rounding and finesse the wine is then aged for a further year in the bottle. Ripe red fruit, spice, coffee and toast aromas. In the mouth it is a nice full-bodied and rounded Rioja with a lot of dark fruit and agreeable, soft tannins. Good with meat dishes like fried steak or leg of lamb. Also good with saddle of hare, for example.
